The Moncler Gamme Rouge S/S16 RTW collection was themed “Versailles meets Abstraction,” with dainty dreamlike looks walking down a gorgeous garden path. Luxe fabrics like jacquard, organza, and complex lace work fused with feminine, yet sporty silhouettes. And yes, a continuation of Giambattista Valli’s current baby doll dress craze. The lace embroidery and floral patterns, as well as a mini ballgown silhouette (LOVE!) lent an air of rococo, while the final look of the collection was a mini version of Marie Antoinette’s famed chemise à la reine.
Julie d’Aubigny also known as Mademoiselle Maupin, a master fencer, actress, and opera singer with a notoriously wild reputation in 17th century France was another muse of the collection. These looks were a bit sporty, with a double striped bodysuit over leggings, a zip up peplum top over shorts, and a sleeveless metallic high-necked fencing jacket dress with embroidered lace underlay. These models carried matching white fencing masks.\n\nThe total collection was poetic, featuring a stunning fusion of romance, adventure, and artistry.
