The Valentino Spring 16 Couture collection is an experience of timelessness and artistry. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli cited turn of the 20th century artists like dancers Isadora Duncan and Loie Fuller as well as the famous pleated silk Delphos gown of Mariano Fortuny as their muses. The art nouveau period. Enough said, I’m on board.Det

_VAL0681The looks felt timeless indeed. Column gowns glided down the runway in deep, rich hues, styled with gilded belt necklaces and serpent headpieces worn by sprites with tousled hair and bare feet embellished by gold barefoot sandals. It was all a little magical and theatrical. Perhaps it would have seemed silly with a collection that didn’t warrant substantial awe in the beautiful intricate artistry of every piece.

On a side note, I love that Valentino is getting into barefoot sandals. The market is filled with DIY, cute but not GORGEOUS and substantial pieces. Valentino just changed that._AG10198These are gowns that will be cherished by their owners. Carefully protected, brought out for wow moment events. Delicately loved far beyond their vintage years._VAL1137Photos: Yannis Vlamos – Indigital Images

  1. This designer is amazing, great ideas, love the light fabrics, the metal chains and head decor, plus some of the patterned dresses are outstanding. There are a few I am not a fan of but compared to most designers, this person/these people hit it out of the park. My only wish is to see models that don’t look so sickly, too young, unhappy, underweight.

    • Such a good point. France recently banned fashion houses from using models with a BMI below what national health authorities state is healthy. Hopefully, with so many major fashion labels residing in France, that requirement will force other countries to follow suit.
