For the bride looking for something a little different from the traditional, husband and wife team Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia may be the way to go for the Fall 2017 season. Their focus of inspiration was strength within grace – definitely an unusual concept for bridal.
Confidence certainly showed through in the looks, with little hints of sensuality, in a collection that bridges between modernist off-the-shoulder crêpe to boho romantic chantilly lace. All in silhouettes that cling to the body, but light in fabric so that brides can breathe, dance, and not feel like they’re carrying an extra 30 lbs of dress all day. Smart. Very smart.
I love the technique shown in this collection, like the long sleeve lace dress that has the wavy piping to give it a very modern kick. And the fantastic sheer (but not actually sheer, so you’re safe from having grandmotherly coronaries) faux-plunge lace with a high waist skirt. This is tempered and shows so much restraint, and I think the edit here is perfect…for the first season. It’s a concept that I think they can build on in the future, especially for the brides who love the sheer bodice concepts, but don’t like the business of the Pnina look. And did I mention the love I have for the deep plunge sweetheart necklines? Yes, yes, yes. This whole collection sings to me!
