The ballet trend is alive and well, and no design house has it perfected like J. Mendel‘s Fall 17 collection. Gilles Mendel took a modernist’s approach to the romantic plisse dresses as well as sumptuous lace numbers and, ruffle cropped into tight tiers, and a range of furs. This well-crafted collection looks both curated as well as designed, the details and textures are so well thought out.

Dress worn by Kate Bosworth at the Oscars Vanity Fair Party

Lacework showed in varying techniques with metallic touches. It was layered with a bit of heft to it that contrasted with the weightless tulle ballet skirts. All had a timeless feel to them.

Lipsy

For the edgier girl, a leopard pant and jacket…with a Pepe Le Pew collar that no kidding, I think is just genius. For the pragmatic daywear that can easily turn to night, there are a few short lace options as well – one with a sexy low back.

The furs were dreamy…I wish they were faux…are they responsibly sourced? I don’t know enough about this. But I can say that at first glance, Mendel does some impressive designs in modernist street style fur. This is not madame grandmother style. When we’re talking blue fur military style jacket with orange epaulets. Or the oversized fox and skunk parka.
