Taking inspiration from the ballet Giselle, Elie Saab put out a dark and brooding collection of his intricate after-hours fare. Ballerina silhouettes in tulle and chiffon were tempered toward Saab‘s bad girl vibe with leather jackets studded with lilies on one end, and the dramatic coat du jour furs on the other.
The looks moved beautiful in layers of wispy tulle, over sheer bodysuits and stockings studded with polka dots, pops of velvet, feathers, lace, and oh yes, ruffles. But there were edgier moments too, like the cropped black leather pants with a navy officer jacket with a black velvet ribbon woven through at angles on the sleeves and torso, creating a deconstructed chevron effect. I’m in love with this jacket. A sheer jacket dress is covered almost entirely in beads and sequins, creating an explosion of colors, tied at the waist with velvet, met at the hips with a skirt of dark grey feathers, and just the slightest hint of lace grazing the leg underneath. Now this is a dress for dancing.
The visuals and palette went complete surreal dream in a watercolor by numbers kind of way in two maxi gowns with a full length cape and capelet. Love. And the bustier and corset tops piped in velvet are absolutely stunning. The drama is definitely here, as is par for Elie Saab‘s course. But he’s also certainly looking more couture by the minute.
