Under the sea sounds more like a cheesy prom theme than the inspiration for a fashion designer, but it certainly was the reference point for Elie Saab‘s Resort 2018 collection. And oh, the colors and print designs are delectable. Consider them seaside motifs that scream luxe vacay.
Fiery coral popped against slivers of aqua blue on a halter midi, a caftan gown, and a duo of gowns. The same bright coral was found on sleek studded leather in a mini skirt, a ruffled mini, and a cropped jacket. I’m pretty much in love with this part of the collection.
Vivid leaves of green and blue seagrass cover breezy gowns as well as a pair of wide leg trousers and matching top, with a longline bomber. Nice touch. A black peplum jumpsuit is complemented by a bomber brightly sequinned in the form of a vibrant coral reef. The coral motif appears on two full-length gowns to stunning effect.
Of course, there were full on glamour moments for Saab‘s die hard customers. Red carpet numbers came by way of sequin, crystal, and paillette encrusted numbers, cold shoulder, one-shoulders, high slits, low plunges, sheer pops, cutouts, pleats, you name it, he created it. He knows his customers.
Even more coveted than his dresses are Saab‘s accessories. Only available in-store, his sunglasses are always swoon worthy delights. Remember his Spring 2017 ones? Oh mah gah! This season, he not only created some cute gold rim round sunglasses, he also designed quite the collection of jewelry. Statement earrings, bangles, crystal studded stockings, sandals, and minaudières all made their way into the collection. All together, they felt a bit much, and I think they’re for different customers. But separated, they are cute pieces.
