Last night’s Time 100 Gala set a record for the most people honored, with global influencers representing a vast array of fields. There were some A-list celebrities and Olympic athletes, but there were also lesser known community organizers and activists like the students from Parkland, Florida and civil rights activist Tarana Burke. Thus far, 2018 has shaped up to be the year of the activist in Hollywood, as the #MeToo movement has highlighted their place in society, and many female celebrities brought activists as their dates to the Golden Globes.
It’s really nice to see that the scales are tipping more toward those individuals pushing for social justice, equality, or change as influencers rather than simply high profile celebrities. It’s important to note that the Time 100 list is not necessarily about who you agree with, but who is the most influential. So regardless of political viewpoints, it’s fair to say the people on this list have been persuasive in their causes.
So now that we’re talking about substance, let’s get a little shallow and take a look at the red carpet looks!
Jennifer Lopez ~ Gown: Zuhair Murad // Shoes: Jimmy Choo // Jewelry: Lorraine Schwartz
Of course it would be none other than JLo who would take top prize for the red carpet. With Zuhair Murad dressing her, she had a leg up on the competition – no pun intended. Murad knows how to make a gorgeous gold number, and this is no exception. This might as well have been the MET or the Oscars, because it was 100% game on for her glam team. The dress was perfection, the makeup was dark and sultry (if not a little heavy handed), and the boob contouring was on point. (You know she did it.)
Leslie Jones ~ Dress: Christian Siriano
Ok, here we have basically the polar opposite from JLo above. Instead of intricate and major wow glam, Ms. Jones is bringing the minimalist chic. And with a big personality and sense of humor, her badassery is showing through this blazer dress with strong shoulders. The sunglasses and heels scream “don’t mess with this b*ssh”. Love. It.
