This year’s couture collections were full of variety. Some designers went for the whimsical, florals, or classic silhouettes. Yet a few decided to take a darker approach, and the collections were full of blacks, reds and edgy looks that really popped. Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE a great fit and flare gown. Throw some romantic draping into the mix, and I’m sold. But sometimes, I just crave a stronger, edgier look. And a few designers certainly produced.

Atelier Versace

This collection is strong, sexy, dark and absolutely reads Versace. I love the detailing with the minimal use of leather and hardware. The tailoring is divine, and it takes a genre that is typically seen as, dare I say, edging on trashy and makes it look haute. See what I did there?  Atelier Versace\n

Jean Paul Gaultier

Gaultier took perhaps the darkest approach with a seemingly direct nod to vamp subculture. The looks are dark, but sophisticated and chic, with luxurious textures and fabrics. Want. jean-paul-gaultier-couture-fall-2014.jpg
