The “dream of Africa” was the source of inspiration for Sophie Theallet’s S/S16 RTW collection, and what a fierce show it was. Strong, sexy silhouettes met with elevated naturalist textures of burlap, silk woven raffia, feathers and lattice as well as tribal prints. But the show stopper for me was the lace work that she somehow managed to create an alligator skin effect. I am also loving the current trend of the racer front choker neckline seen in many of the NYFW designers’ collections. This look popped up throughout Theallet’s collection, showing how dynamic she is with billowing gowns, ankle length A-lines, feathered bubble skirts, and sexy sheer tops paired with a well-tailored pant. The gold bands tied many of the looks together, creating varying sizes of belts and hemlines in fabric, creating cohesion across the looks. Strong collection, and this designer definitely has my attention!\n
