Marchesa‘s Spring/Summer 2016 collection is for the birds…or at least inspired by them with the concept noted as “a botanical menagerie of caged birds.” And if Georgina Chapman and Karen Craig are the creators, you can bet that cage is gilded and red carpet ready. The show opened with two black and nude gowns with crosscut strap bodices that evoked both images of a nest as well as a cage. An organza skirt with a two-feather bustline was stunningly romantic, and reminded me of Swan Lake. Fuschia gowns with sheer embroidered flowers evolved into a fuschia-grey-black ombre gown with asymmetrical tiers that just popped. Two looks later, a fluffy feather and tulle ombre gown stunned the crowd. The entire show was dreamlike, and one of my top collections of the season.
