With Talitha Getty as her muse, Monique Lhuillier created her Fall 2016 RTW collection with a focus on the eclectic and eccentric. Getty was a well-traveled actress in the 1960’s, and was known as a style icon who created her own vivid Marrakech bohemian style.

And boho certainly made itself known in this collection of layered patterns and textures. Sometimes a little too much, and the clash of patterns just didn’t work in a few looks. Yet when the editing eye cut just a little back on the busy, the looks were vibrant and beautiful. The vivid azure cap sleeve lace dress looks stunning with a rose vine embroidery connecting 3D green two-tone flower petals.

Her most successful looks were figure flattering maxis in lace or chiffon with gorgeous fil coupe, beading, or appliques. The black chiffon gown covered in gold flower medallions had little pops of pink in the gold, creating a gorgeous rosy glimmer. A sheer rose long sleeve dress was adorned with coral sequins in a Moroccan-inspired pattern and tiny tassels in cream and burgundy. This version of busy worked, and it’s gorgeous. The styling was perfect on top, unfortunate on the bottom. Sparkly socks with open toed heels…just…not…pretty. If feet are exposed, they should look pretty too.

The finale gowns were Lhuillier‘s money shots as a designer looking to dominate on the red carpet. The gowns stood on their own, almost separate entirely from the concept of the rest of the runway show. A blush racer front high-low gown was covered in a muted tropical flower print and sparkled with lattice patterned sequins and rose petals garnished with glimmering beads. A strapless coral tiered tulle gown was embroidered in gold vines with the same 3D flower petals, this time in vivid blue and gold.

The final look was a strapless plum sheer corset with visible boning over a white ball skirt with a more modern art version of printed roses with a Jackson Pollack style splatter of red, white, and green. A matching red flower applique covered pieces of the corset, creating a cohesive effect.Monique Lhuillier - Photo Marcus Tondo - Indigital19

Monique Lhuillier is the next designer to experiment with the new show today, available today model with five of the looks available for purchase immediately on her website. If the idea is successful, she may expand this concept in future collections.
