We all thought she was done with walking the runway after she retired in 2015. But who could turn down an invitation to walk the catwalk in their home country in the Olympics? Ok, so modeling isn’t exactly a sport, but they certainly made sure it was a looooong walk. It’s ok, though. She didn’t trip. We, Gisele included, were all a little worried about that.
And as Brazilian bombshell Gisele Bündchen hit that catwalk during the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Rio Olympics in that dress, we were all just a little bit stunned.

It was a little surreal – probably for her as much as for us. “Girl from Ipanema” playing in the background as she strutted the longest catwalk of her life in the most jaw-dropping gold column gown that appeared as if it was dripping dew metallic off her skin. Seriously, that dress.

Designer Alexandre Herchcovitch told Vogue that it took him four (4!!) months to make this dress with several tests and fittings.

Embroidered sequins over mesh, ruched at the side with a deep v-neck and thigh high slit. He used a technique with the fabric to create “fluidity in which the sequined embroidery would flow horizontally around her body”. Amazing!

Um…Gisele…be careful. No coconut juice on this dress. Four months to make this! Can you see Alexandre in the background having a heart attack?!
And the feel good moments don’t stop there for the retired super model. Shoe designer Alexandre Birman decided to unveil his newest silver python sandal, naming it “Gisele”.

I can only imagine that the longest catwalk of her life, representing two countries dear to her, wearing the glittering pieces of two phenomenal designers, seeing all the lights of the people surrounding her…it must have been, if not a little scary, mostly magical.
