Alessandro Michele is certainly a heady artist in the design world, and his Spring 2017 collection for Gucci was a wacky parade of 20th century (mostly 70’s) meets best-of historical costume. Michele wanted the garments to talk about love and quirkiness.
The looks were maximalist more-is-more, with plenty of ruffles, florals, the signature serpent print, ruching, tiers of fringe and tulle, and voluminous sleeves. All aged and feeling a bit 70’s, a bit 80’s New Wave with a cocktail party going off the rails feel.
Favorite pieces include the tailored wide leg cropped pant, the nerdy cream plunge neck sweater dress, the strapless 3-tiered crepe plisse dress with a dagger through the heart, the crimson payette pencil skirt, and the dress with the cream structural shoulders with calla lily shaped petals, a plunge neck with a red ribbon belt tied at the waist, and a navy wool skirt.
This is definitely a collection to flip through the photos and get lost in the details.
