In an interview backstage at his runway show, Tom Ford told WWD that he was “more interested in style than fashion…. Will someone wear this in 20 years?” Even more exciting? You can wear this right now. The Tom Ford fashion house made the see now, buy now concept a reality, making many of the runway looks available immediately after the show.
With that focus, The Tom Ford Spring 2017 RTW collection delivered a relaxed sophistication that is becoming more and more rare in today’s era of social media-driven athleisure and bodycon style. This collection certainly turned up our collective brows in the form of relaxed tweed, brown and red ombre leather tops, and pencil skirts. Ford played with volume, yet kept silhouettes mostly long and lean.
Evening looks in velvet, feathered fringe, and a gown of color block sequins were all understated and left me wanting more. I’d say the mission of delivering style over fashion was definitely accomplished.
