We shouldn’t be surprised when designers take to Cuba for inspiration en masse before it becomes passe. Diplomatic ties having just warmed up enough to once again enable American tourism, the island seems enticing and a new source of inspiration. Chanel held an open air runway show for its Resort 2017 collection that seemed like just as much a party as it did a fashion show.trina-turk-spring-17-rtw-the-luxe-lookbook

Trina Turk went on an architectural tour, bringing back a slew of ideas for the Spring RTW collection that were fun, cheerful, and hints at the old fashioned formality of the 50’s bygone era mixed with modern design. It was this divine island vibe meets vintage mixture in a color palette of guava, tomate, mojito and indigo. The popular Coppelia ice cream parlor was the source of inspiration for the graphic pinwheel print seen on a trapeze dress, a cropped pant, and a one-shoulder top. Bare shoulders make an appearance throughout this collection with off-the-shoulder tops.

Crisp jackets weaved throughout the collection, inspired by the women of Havana wearing 70’s style fitted uniforms. Personal favorites include a navy check pattern fitted jacket over matching lace shorts, and a white cold shoulder jacket over a navy fringe mini skirt.

The collection finishes with more formal fare including a fantastic blue and white striped halter ruffle jumpsuit and a cream and tomate fringe dress. Yes, oh yes.
