Riccardo Tisci presented the Spring 17 Givenchy show in the open air in the Jardin des Plantes of Paris where he visually ruminated on such heavy hitters as the strength of nature and spirituality.

The show started with a trio of major pops of delectable color in geode meets agate prints over beige lace slip dresses layered over long sheer tanks. This was followed by a selection of black fitted jackets over flared pants, with each model wearing a giant chained slice of geode around her neck ala Flavor Flav. This made me giggle.

From there, it was an exploration of the female figure in bodycon silhouettes of beige, red, orange, brown, and pink. Some of the most successful looks in this monotone series were Tisci’s simpler looks were he carved out curves in heavy stitch work, creating simple but fantastic minimalist texture effect.

Then the runway exploded with patterns of flirty polka dots, pseudo-mandalas, and staggering stripes as though Tisci had had one too many when he was cutting the fabric…but I like it!

It ended in a whisper rather than a bang, with dark suits embroidered with shards of crystals in dreamy patterns. Beautiful.
