There were some unexpected fashion moments on the Fall 2017 runways that set the stage for the major trends of the upcoming season. Are we ready for Autumn yet? Back to school? Pumpkin spice, boots, Fall leaves, and cozy fires? Maybe.

From retro textured fabrics to pops of color on fur, take a look at the major trends of Fall 2017.

Crushing in Velvet

We saw it last season, and for Fall 17, the trend only got stronger. From little design pops to the full shabang, velvet had its moment this season on the runways of many of the major designers.

Beat the Streets

There was a major shift toward daywear by many of the designers, not just with the continuation of the athleisure movement, but also with more urban streetwear. These ateliers are definitely striking the right chords, realizing that there are other clients out there looking to be dressed, and we aren’t all looking for the formality of yesteryear.

Heavy Metal

Sequins, crystals, lamé – you name it, it’s here. Metallic finishes are glimmered on scene again this season. I’m pretty sure we just won’t ever quit this trend. Girls and their sparkle!

Make a Powerful Statement

With such a polarizing political clime, many of the designers took to t-shirt slogans to make a political or social statement. Be it about feminism, unity, immigration, or rights and equality, the big trend is wearing your standpoint on your sleeve…or back, chest, leg, or anywhere else you feel like.

Cozy Up in Shearling

Now this is a trend you can cozy up to. The shearling trend was seen throughout many collections. From the corduroy to lacquered to tanned leather, this fuzzy finish was hot on outerwear.

Balmain; Saint Laurent; Sonia Rykiel; Marc Jacobs; Proenza Schouler

Check It

A resurgence of 90’s style means the preppy plaid trend is back in full swing.

Mara Hoffman; Rosie Assoulin; Bottega Veneta; Marc Jacobs; Tory Burch

Full Blast Fur

Fur is definitely having its moment in the Fall. From the skunk trend that we saw all over the runways to intricate intarsia designs to pops of vibrant color, it’s all about the (hopefully faux) fur.

Versace; Prada; Fendi; J. Mendel

Pull the Cord

Still have vintage corduroy that you never got rid of? Well it’s now back (again) as retro.
