Has Elie Saab been binge watching Game of Thrones like the rest of us? The designer’s latest couture collection had medieval royalty written all over it in one giant procession of gala worthy collection of gowns. Saab noted fallen kings and a heroic sisterhood of warrior queens…. No seriously, is he actually talking about the show?
Either way, the collection is as always, over the top and red carpet ready. Not so much warrior, but definitely queen. From dreamy, ethereal off-the-shoulder moments like the soft blue number, embellished with shimmery blue and gold sequins and tempered strips of velvet, to the floor length blush toned feather cape over a shimmer scale effect gown, to the absolutely stunning sheer nude gown with the jeweled scoop neck, little black wings along the bodice and sleeves, as well as crystals, beading and light embroidery throughout the dress. So incredible.
True to this season’s trends, we see romantic flowing velvets, intermixed with Saab‘s signature sheer and lace work, as well as captivating silks, all in an array of colors and patterns to match almost every royal formal event, trains and capes often included.
The finale gowns slowly ascended toward bridal, with the crescendo of a hooded bride flanked by two attendants. The bride wore a blush mermaid gown with a detachable train creating a full ball gown outlined with gold sequin leaves while her two attendants wore gold column versions of the same leaf design.
Yes, sometimes a little costume-y here and there, but a dazzling collection nevertheless.
