A few surprises
The wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle was a dramatic but cheerful celebration – full of surprises, and indicative of an incredible change of atmosphere within the royal house of the UK. Not so long ago, some of the choices made by Prince Harry would have been out of the question….like marrying an American actress for one. But also having a boisterous American Episcopalian reverend giving a sermon and gospel choir singing inside St. George’s Chapel of Windsor Castle during a royal wedding. But here we are.
International Affairs: Call it a Draw
The affair was both grand and incredibly intimate. The personal exchanges between the two made it sometimes seem like they could have been the only two people in the room. Incredibly, the royal and British customs did not absorb Meghan, having her bend to the will of all of the standards and traditions of the crown. But they allowed her room to exercise her own identity and infuse her own culture into the wedding…and hopefully this is indicative of her future life as a duchesse.
Gimme The Gown
And the fashion. Oh, the wedding fashion! Her gown was designed by Claire Waight Keller, the artistic director of Givenchy. The now-Duchess of Sussex worked with the designer since January to create the simple yet stunning gown.

…And the Crown
The open bateau neckline was romantic and simple, leading down to three-quarter sleeves and a sculpted waist. The modern, clean look was achieved using double bonded silk cady fabric selected and created by Waight Keller, with a small team of ateliers in Paris. Givenchy also created a show stopping sheer train, which was fastened by a diamond filigree tiara on loan from the queen, previously Queen Mary’s.
And of course there would be a wardrobe change for the reception. Her second dress was a just-as-minimalist halter gown by Stella McCartney with a drop waist – surely perfect for dancing the night away.
Ok, now who else was there?
And what about the rest of the celebrity crowd? While all eyes weren’t on them, there were still a few fashion fabulous moments not to miss. From Oprah to Amal Clooney to Priyanka Chopra…and of course the Queen, there are the major fashion moments of the royal wedding. One of the celebs creating the biggest buzz at a royal wedding yet again is surprise, surprise Pippa Middleton. But unlike last time, she’s now wearing something incredibly modest, almost swallowing her, and unfortunately being likened to an Arizona tea bottle. So unfortunate.
