Get down to business

From herringbone to checks to plaids to tweeds, it’s all here, and all super serious. You’ll definitely stay warmer this Fall and you just might channel some female power boost a la Jennifer Lawrence’s character in ‘Joy’. Get that fierce swagger working, girl.

Unleash your inner sparkle

Our culture has officially flipped the tables like RHONJ Teresa circa 2009. It’s the social media trends that are inspiring the runway rather than the runway inspiring the social media trends. All these fabulous Insta-stars and YT celebs sharing their glistening beauty tricks have been turning the runways into a sparkle factory to match the social media craze we just can’t seem to get enough of. So go for it – unleash your inner sparkle. Have the ‘oh, something shiny!’ moment and then wear it.

Prairie Chic

Apparently designers are looking to get homes where the buffalo roam, because they’re all looking to the prairie girls for some style inspo. Like I said, our style culture has flipped the script. We saw apron dresses, patchwork quilting, and floral frocks across the runways, and I can’t wait to see how this trend plays out en masse.

Bigger is better

None of us really liked those little micro bags anyway. They could never carry all the things we wanted to take with us, and you know at least one out of every 3-4 of your friends is the Mary Poppins of the group. She’s the go-to of the girls…the one who always has a stash of Excedrin, tampons, safety pins, gum, 15 shades of lipstick, and would guarantee the survival of your group if you ever had to MacGuyver your way out of a dire sitch. So golf clap to the return of the over-sized bags. We salute you, designers!

Make it extra hot

We saw millennial pink, but this season our favorite feminine hue is getting an upgrade to extra. Make it a monotone look, pair it with red, or infuse a pop of pink into your look to embrace this hot trend.

Heading out west

The designers weren’t just looking to the prairies for some inspo – they were also obviously binge watching Westworld. Calvin Klein took to this one especially, putting Kaia Gerber in an icy toned yellow button down and blue trousers. There are so many fun elements to this – fringe, studding, boots, belts, denim… there are so many things you can do with this that don’t have to be too overt. And for the ladies who hate to wear skirts all the time, this one has a lot of great options for you.

Futuristic Sci-Fi

It wouldn’t be a runway season without somebody getting a little crazy. But this season the designers opted to do it together with some major raver meets futurism meets sci-fi fashion. Think holographic space blanket material + lustrous flexi-plastic + bubble fabric. Yes, it’s heady, and probably a lot of fun to wear.

Footloose flashback to the 80’s

You know, just when we thought we was finally free of Saint Laurent’s bad 80’s fashion collections, the rest of the designers apparently had prank us. Just kidding! It’s all back, y’all! And it’s oh so bad. Oversized color block suits at Marc Jacobs; stirrup pants at Lanvin; giant puff sleeves at Alexander McQueen and Gucci; and a lot of leather and neon tights. Oh girl. We’re going to get through this.

You’re such an animal

If there was one thing splashed across many of the runways during Fall 2018 fashion week, it was animal print. This isn’t just your toned down, subtle animal print either. It’s the in-your-face vibrant colors (even neon – yes! More 80’s!) of zebra, leopard, tiger…even the Cheshire cat.
