It’s that time of year! The one night (ok, full on night + weekend) when it’s ok to dress like a total crazy person, go out and party or solicit random people for candy, and nobody will call the police on you. Well…if you’re doing it right.
One of the most important parts about Halloween hands down is your costume. Whether store bought or DIY, it has to get that reaction you came for. So check out this year’s best ideas for a little inspiration.

Wakanda Forever

Black Panther’s Nakia, Okoye, and Shuri were phenomenal, strong women. Go as any of these fierce women warriors, and you are sure to hear the phrase “Wakanda forever!”

The Shining Twins

These girls were always super creepy, and nothing will give your friends a little hair-raising shudder than you and your bestie dressed like the Grady twins, holding hands. Remember to tell your everyone you see to “come and play with us. Forever…and ever…and ever.”

Fake News
Why not? The term is thrown around so loosely by now, it’s its own inside joke. I personally love this DIY version by @daniellesmodernlife, but you can always go for the sexy store bought version.

Mad Hatter

This is definitely a bit of an updated version, and I like it so much more than the cheesy re-used clown costume turned Mad Hatter outfit that so many of the stores were using. And the makeup tutorial by @themarielhatter is a fresh take with a bit of a dark twist.

Heathers
If you haven’t heard yet, there’s a TV show coming out based on the original 1980’s cult classic movie starring Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, and Shannen Doherty. Perfect timing to bust out a Heathers costume with any of the three Heathers and Veronica. This can be a great group costume, or you can go solo.

Mamma Mia

Here we go again, and this time it’s some vintage flare with some denim ruffles and metallic boots. And you even get to show some skin. I picked out a few pieces that fit the bill for a great remake of Donna and her entourage.

Oompa Loompa
Doopity Doo. This one is a great one. You get to change colors, shapes if you want to, and you can choose how to arrange the team if you’re going as a family or group. A team of oompa loompas, or an array of the chocolate factory characters. Either way, there are bound to be a lot of laughs.

Oil Slick
Sounds gross right? But if you get these unicorn-esque colors in there and are pretty decent with your makeup, you can create an amazingly dreamy Halloween costume.

Elastigirl // Mrs. Incredibles // Helen Parr
Going as a sexy superhero mom is kind of a good gig. You don’t have to show a lot of skin (so you get to stay warm!), but everybody can still see a sexy silhouette in there. (Need a little boost in that area? Spanx are my best friend.) And you’re kind of a badass so….what’s not to love?

Mary Poppins

This is for the ladies who don’t feel like wearing something with five inches of fabric. Or the ones who love the classic, proper coats and Victorian high-neck shirting…and of course a fabulous pair of boots. Finish the look with an over-sized bag and umbrella, and you’ll be set.

Day of the Dead
When All Hallows Eve meets Day of the Dead, you have a fusion of fantastic culture. My kiddos are half Mexican and love to find new Day of the Dead mask and face paint designs. The secret to a show-stopper is a little shine. Makeup artist Lindsay Hancock went full bling with her rendition -no kidding- in 2012, and it’s still one of my faves. If you want to go a little darker, there are also similar looks from makeup pros Jordan Liberty and Brianna Fox.

Pumpkin Spice Latte

For the basic b’s, this costume is for the girls who have an addiction! You know who you are. One leaf hits the ground, and all you hear is the screeching tires of VW Jettas everywhere whipping to the nearest Starbucks to get their fix of PSL. This is an easy and cheap DIY, but it looks incredibly cute. Wear this one with pride!

Astronaut

Who didn’t dream about what it would be like to float in one of those space suits at one point in their life? Especially after Elon Musk sent the space man up into the great beyond, driving the Tesla. Ok, so you won’t be anywhere near the space station…but you’ll be at ground control, looking a heck of a lot better than most actual astronauts. Dress up is usually so much better than the actual job.

Gumball Machine

When you want to go a little Katy Perry playful with your costume, this one is a great option. Create a little gumball crop top, grab a red mini skirt, and with just a few additions, you have yourself an adorable (and sexy!) gumball machine. Alexa Nicole has a great tutorial here, using actual gumballs, or you can check out the YouTube tutorial as well using poms. Just make sure you have extra gumballs and glue in hand, because you know people will be stealing a few.
