Harper’s Bazaar UK just announced their Women of the Year for 2018, celebrating inspirational writers, actresses, designers, and models who “share heartfelt commitment and a profound sense of sisterhood – the values that we at Bazaar also hold dear.”
So who made the list? While some were no brainers, others made me stop and say…what? I mean, I loooove this celeb. But that was their reasoning? Is this just a rando reason to give this person good PR in some weird agreement? Am I missing something? Am I tone deaf? Are they tone deaf? Seriously what is happening. Here are a few of them:
One of the most celebrated actresses of her generation, Keira Knightley has spent the past three years juggling the demands of motherhood and a stellar career.”
Dress and Jewelry: Chanel
The activist is mobilising her fellow models, revolutionising the fashion industry in the process.”
Givenchy’s brilliant artistic director kept fashion’s biggest secret this year, discreetly designing Meghan Markle’s glorious wedding dress, while continuing the rich legacy of the fabled French maison.”
She may have begun as a Bond Girl, but she has since eschewed stereotypical roles in favour of strong female characters with compelling stories to tell.”
Dress: Michael Kors dress // Jewelry: Van Cleef & Arpels
Having enjoyed unprecedented longevity in a dazzling career, the legendary singer remains the brightest star in the pop firmament.
I don’t know. The only person I expected to see on this list was Clare Waight Keller for secretly designing Meghan Markle’s royal wedding gown. Is it person of the year worthy? Debatable, but it was a big moment. But generally in this list, it seems HBUK either phoned in the write-ups or they really didn’t put much thought into who received the awards.
