After the solemn vibe of last year’s Golden Globes, it was good to see things had a lighter tone this time. I mean, our country is even deeper in chaotic turmoil and division of viewpoints, there’s no arguing that.
But sometimes, it’s good to take a night off from all the 24-hour news cycles and hearing about Twitter wars to just have a good time, right?! Brooklyn Nine-Nine goofball Andy Samberg paired with stellar actress Sandra Oh sounds like it would roll well for the 2019 Golden Globes. They didn’t throw too many jabs for the major laughs, and instead rolled it back for some sweet, soft charm. Oh. Ok, well that works too.
There were some major upsets, and I’m not really going to talk about awards themselves too much because I’m here to talk about clothes. BUT. I was surprised to see some of the decisions go the way they did. Especially A Star is Born going 1 for 5. Not expecting that!
So let’s move on to the sartorial moments on the red carpet to ogle our hearts out! Plus you can even shop the red carpet for the exact looks the celebs wore.
Saoirse Ronan ~ Gucci gown and Chopard jewelry
Saoirse looks divine in this fringe meets chainmail plunge gown. It complements her skin tone so well, bringing out this glow. The subtle vintage vibe is balance with the sculptural form perfectly.
Rosamund Pike ~ Givenchy gown
This criss-cross cutout gown shows off Rosamund’s crazy statuesque figure, and alone I’m not sure the black gown would put her on the best dressed list. But the criss-cross combo with the mermaid drop waist and the wide choker are perfect for her. Add the shimmery jacket and yes!
Lupita Nyong’o ~ Calvin Klein by Appointment gown and Bulgari jewelry
I’m alway interested to see Lupita’s looks, because she usually goes for the gusto. And she did not disappoint this time, giving us some shimmery movement over this gorgeous shade of blue that just pops against her skin.
Nicole Kidman ~ Michael Kors gown
Listen Michael Kors, imma need you to stop, ok. This is just too much. Up close, it almost looks like a herringbone pattern. How. in. the. world. And that bag just finished it for me. This is one step away from a bodysuit and I’m not sure how that’s possible.
Sofia Carson ~ Giambattista Valli gown
So this is a hot-cold gown. You’re either going to love it or hate it. But it’s all love for me. The open back is fab, and the attached mermaid is so playful.
Lady Gaga ~ Valentino gown, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, and Tiffany & Co. jewels
Did we expect anything less? Lady Gaga always goes over the top, and this red carpet was no different. I love the matching blue in the hair, the Tiffany jewelry, and those major sleeves.
Regina King in Alberta Ferretti Limited Edition dress with Messika jewels
Oh. mah. gah. Regina is a vixen in this pink voluptuous gown, and the side panels just accentuate that hourglass shape. An absolute wow.
Gemma Chan ~ Valentino couture gown, Forevermark Diamonds and Christian Louboutin shoes
Dear Gemma Chan,
I want to borrow this gown.
Kiki Layne ~ Dior gown and Bulgari jewelry
I’m just a sucker for the balletic romance of the off-the-shoulder, wispy tulle moments.
Joanna Newsom ~ Dress: Rodarte // Shoes: Stuart Weitzman // Jewelry: Neil Lane
Is there a joke or a social commentary I’m missing?
Lucy Liu ~ Galia Lahav gown
That one time we went to arts and crafts and decided to paint some fabric, and someone decided to use it for a gown.
Elisabeth Moss ~ Dior dress
Elisabeth Moss looks just as comfortable in this dress as I feel when my uncle brings up Trump and the border wall at Thanksgiving.
Kate Mara ~ Miu Miu dress with jewels by Eva Fehren and Anita Ko
The bulging boobs being smooshed down, the harsh lipstick, and the topknot reminiscent of Pepper from American Horror Story. It’s just not working.
Indya Moore ~ Louis Vuitton dress
You know, this is actually an interesting dress, and other than those crazy spaceship shoulders, it has potential. But not really for the Golden Globes red carpet.
