Celebrating the 25th anniversary, the SAG Awards ditched red and rolled out the silver carpet. Leading the nomination list is A Star is Born (did you see Gaga’s show with Bradley Cooper’s surprise appearance in Vegas? Tell me those two don’t have insane chemistry…), Ozark, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Crazy Rich Asians, and GLOW. Whichever way they slice it, it’s bound to be a fabulous night. So much amazingness in one year.

And who hosted this year? None other than Ms. Megan Mullally, aka Karen Walker from Will & Grace. Um, yes. Let’s start this thing, right now, mkay? Get those cocktails in hand.

But first, the red carpet. Because, this is a fashion site.

Lady Gaga ~ Gown: Dior // Shoes: Jimmy Choo // Jewelry: Tiffany and Co.

The diva has always been down for her dramatic gowns, and I love the classicism in this white Dior moment. The wrapped, cinched waist highlights that amazing hourglass silhouette of hers and gives off a classic Hollywood 1950/60’s vibe, flaring into a full skirt with a high slit with a low bodysuit. The unfinished seams add some great texture with a bit of a Roman nod. This is a definite yes for me.

Emily Blunt ~ Gown: Michael Kors // Shoes: Sam Edelman // Clutch: Jimmy Choo // Jewelry: Forevermark jewelry

Ok, so I know there are going to be some jokes here about some female parts comparisons. But personally, I am loving Emily in this sculptural gown. It’s a risk, and her athletic physique is shown off in this column gown. The structural sleeves are gorgeous. And while pink looks great against her skin tone, I do think Kors could have picked another color considering the reference that could be made here…. Love you two! Congrats, Emily. 😘

Rachel Brosnahan ~ Gown: Dior Haute Couture // Shoes: Jimmy Choo: // Jewelry: Irene Neuwirth jewels

I am a sucker for a straight corset gown like this dusty blue Dior lace moment. It’s demure, understated, but so flattering with the double cinch ties at the waist and under-bust.

Amy Adams ~ Gown: Celine // Shoes: Jimmy Choo // Jewelry: Cartier jewelry

She went for the drama and she nailed it. The column gown shows off just a hint of those legs, but really highlights the silhouette of her hips. And woo, va-va-voom with that bubble peplum corset. An adventurous and playful take on this classic style.

Laverne Cox ~ Gown: Zac Posen // Shoes: Kenneth Cole // Clutch: Judith Leiber // Jewelry: Marianna Harutunian, Yves Tufenkjian

Oh mah gah. Becky, look at her butt. She must be one of those rap guys’ girlfriends. Ok, but no seriously, do you see that booty on Laverne? She and Zac Posen just nailed it with this gown. The color, the fabric, the draping, the jeweled back. It’s. all. divine.

Michelle Yeoh ~ Gown: Elie Saab // Clutch: Roger Vivier

Elie Saab can make anything look magical. While his feathered skirt and beautiful shimmer beading gives the ethereal look, it’s the sabrina neckline that really won me over with this gown.

Emma Stone ~ Outfit: Louis Vuitton

Did I mention how much I love Emma Stone’s red carpet range? The rich gold sequins and beading, oversized bow tied at the neck, the one sleeve…it’s all just perfection. Of course, they picked the exact shade of lipstick that would complement the gold just right. And the wide leg tuxedo pants are just what this outfit needs.

Yara Shahidi ~ Ensemble: Fendi // Shoes: Christian Louboutin // Jewelry: Cartier

What in the serious what is happening here. My mind just could not compute this for a solid three seconds. This beauty wore a shimmery bodysuit covered in a sheer gown on the red carpet. And I momofarking LOVE it. Even more surprising was that it was by Fendi. Now this is a hot-cold look, so I doubt anyone is going to be lukewarm to it. But the way it glistened when she moved, how amazing her body looks in it, and how unconventional it is put it high on my best dressed list. The one thing I would change is the color of the shoes to blend better with the ensemble. But that’s it.

Jackie Tohn ~ Gown: Safiyaa // Shoes: Jerome Crousseau // Jewelry: Meirat Jewelry and Amanda Pearl

Now this was a little bit of a surprise red carpet moment. I saw Jackie last minute, while I was wrapping things up and I’m so glad I did. I love the modernist viewpoint and the shape of the cold shoulder sleeves. The embellishments on the cape give off a slight Art Nouveau vibe, which I looooove. Gorgeous.

Gemma Chan ~ Gown: Oscar de la Renta // Shoes: Christian Louboutin // Jewelry: Harry Winston

Yaasss. The drama! The feathered pink high-low skirt trailing into a train, the gathered one-shoulder bodice, the black belt…I love it all. Every time that dress moved, it felt like a (gorgeous) party.

Margot Robbie ~ Gown: Chanel // Clutch: Chanel

I often think that when Chanel pares it down and goes simple, that is when they shine the most. We see this only so well in the case of their gown for Margot Robbie, with the gilded woven tiers flanking white panels. This look showcases her incredible silhouette (oh mah gah!!), and is stunning in its simplicity.

Julia Garner ~ Gown: Zac Posen // Jewelry: Harry Winston

Ooohhhh, vintage bombshell. The two-tone mint, the polka dots, the hourglass mermaid, the train, the capped sleeve off-the-shoulder neckline…be still my vintage loving heart.

Mandy Moore ~ Gown: Jason Wu // Shoes: Jimmy Choo // Jewelry: Niwaka

Another off-the-shoulder stunner. Mandy Moore shows off her fabulous figure in this body-hugging creation by Jason Wu with a rolled neckline covered in crystal beading. Gorgeous from every angle.

Ryan Michelle Bathe ~ Gown: Sebastian Gunawan

Now this is a trumpet worth sounding. The dramatic flair of the feather bottom is fun, but it’s the linear shimmer beading and the sheer cap sleeve neckline and imperial collar that really sealed it for this gown. She Ryan Michelle looks stunning. And oh my goodness, her booty looks amazing in this gown too!

Renee Bargh ~ Gown: Rachel Gilbert

It’s simple, but the color and silhouette are total perfection. The faux linear tier belting across the waist is subtle, so you might not even notice it at first glance. But it cunningly enhances the curves, and I love this little trompe l’oeil piece of innovation here. Plus the sequins are flip style, which adds to the visual texture.

Sandra Oh ~ Gown: Jenny Packham // Jewelry: Atelier Swarovski

The dual fabric of this statuesque gown just pops on Sandra. The sheer overlay against the shimmering gown is visually stunning, and the tied bustier with one-shoulder knot is the perfect amount of embellishment. The color is also perfect for her.

Rhea Seehorn ~ Gown: Georges Chakra // Jewelry: Hearts On Fire

I wasnt a fan when Versace did this style, and Georges Chakra isn’t any better. The knotty twisty thing really isn’t flattering on anybody, and makes your bust lopsided. The color tones didn’t work so well here either. I think this could have worked had the twists been a little smaller and the fabric been a little tighter, and the colors been more subdued like Sandra Oh’s dress or Samira Wiley’s, also by Georges Chakra.

Angela Bassett ~ Gown: Georges Chakra

Another Georges Chakra moment, surprisingly. I’m usually a fan of his gowns, but this award show is a miss for me. I am loving the visual texture of the triangle pieces, but they should have remained small, as are the ones at the neckline. As they get larger, it draws the eyes to her hips and legs, making those areas look larger than they are, which is not flattering. Plus the center slit is doing something wonky here, making the gown look like tapered pants, and it is not a cute look. Now Angela Bassett has a phenomenal figure.

Sydney Sweeney ~ Gown: Delpozo // Shoes: Nicholas Kirkwood

There’s a lot going on here. From the loud color to the color blocking to the odd use of fabric that kind of just screams department store discount dress for homecoming. But it’s Delpozo…? So here’s the thing. This has no reflection on Sydney herself. She looks like a super sweet girl. But I heard it from Sebastian Pons that much of the current fashion is crap. And sometimes I think designers quite literally don’t try. Perhaps for irony’s sake send something out that could be done by a high school fashion student with no vision for taste, slap their label on it, and see how many people love it. And I think this is one of those pieces.

  1. If Lady Gaga doesn’t say the iconic ”there could be a hundred people in the room…” speech when she wins an Oscar I will get really upset haha! I love Emma Stones look(so timeless and chic look) Sandra Oh kills every dress ever made, and omg Emily Blunt I love all of her red carpet looks! I’ve never heard of Gemma Chan but omg that dress is STUNNING!

Yes! So glad you loved all of these choices!!

  2. Oh woooow, so many fabulous looks! I’m amazed by Lady Gaga’s figure in that neutral dress; her waistline is incredible!!
